THURSDAY, 17 APRIL 2008: The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, joined the community of Maokeng township in Kroonstad in Free State province in a clean-up campaign which focused on dirtiest areas.
“Having a clean environment is good for our health and creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for tourists and visitors. The additional incentive is that communities should now change their attitude towards waste and regard it as a resource which can be exchanged for money”, said Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi.
The Chief Executive Officer of Buyisa e Bag, Mr. Benny Makgoga, pledged an investment of R2 Million in the form of erecting Buy Back Centre in Kroonstad. Mr. Makgoga indicated that the local community will be assisted to start a 100% community owned company. Buyisa e Bag awaits the allocation of land from Moqhaka Municipality for the erection of the Buy Back Centre
The Clean-Up Campaign will be rolled out to other towns and cities across the country later this year. The aim of the campaign is to make public places such as shopping centres, taxi ranks, bottle stores, streets in town and cities, etc to look clean and tidy at all times. It further aims to inculcate responsibility in the minds of the citizens to look after and keep their environments clean.
